Food

Ok, we've been in Afric for 9 days now. Overall Laura does not like the food. In general we've been getting fed what they feed visitors when they come. That usually starts off with something called Matoke. Matoke is a type of banana (apparently there are over a 100 varieties here). They mash it up and make it the consistency of a boiled potatoes. To me it has little taste but it is thick and sometimes hard to get down. It wouldn't be so bad but they serve it to you in the size of a baked potatoe. I tried to tell them I was little and I got the size of about a 1/2 backed potatoe but I could usually only eat about 1/3 of that. They serve it with a nut sauce that tastes nothing like nuts but looks like refried beans. Then there are 1-2 types of rice which is quite good. Then a meat like chicken (fried or baked) or beef stew and then vegetables that are cooked or greens that are cooked. The best part is the fruit which is AWESOME and sweet! The pineapple is out of this world. There is also papaya and watermelon. Laura has eaten so much pineapple she has mouth ulcers. As the week went on I got wary of the meat. You pass by meat sellers on the street and there is the meat hanging in the windows with no refrigeration but flies all around. I tried not to eat the meat. The other main problem is that we were fed this for lunch and dinner for like 4 days in a row! Laura would eat the rice and fruit. Finally we broke from the group and found a menu and ordered ham and cheese sandwiches were great!
